The Animated Literacy Book of Pattern Reading, Writing, & Singing Activities continues the word substitution process that was introduced in the basic 91 lesson plans. At first the students are working with the teacher or parent to change the songs by substituting their words for selected words in each song. As their reading and writing skills develop, the students take over the process and they are able to independently compose their own songs. This process develops decoding, word recognition, and fluency as the students read and reread each song many times.
