Note: Due to file size, the recordings of The Animated Alphabet Characters' Songs have been divided into 5 parts each containing 9 songs. Each set of songs needs to be ordered separately.
Each of the 45 Animated Alphabet Characters has a song that includes frequent repetition of the character's sound, a gesture to associate with the sound, and a letter or letters used to spell the character's sound. Each time a character's song is sung it helps to reinforce the character's sound, gesture, and letter(s). The characters' gestures tap into the muscle memory system and they are the strongest symbol associated with each character's sound in the early stages of instruction. If a child forgets a character's sound, the teacher can silently gesture the character's sound and the child will usually remember and produce the sound. Each Animated Literacy lesson includes warm up activities for developing phonological awareness. A character's gesture should be performed each time the character's sound is produced. Additional gestures to accompany the singing of each song are included in The Animated Literacy Story, Song, and Action Book. As students gesture the meaning of the words to the songs, comprehension and vocabulary development is enhanced and multisensory instruction is increased.
